The Treatment of Bush Has Been a Disgrace

We now have around 15 days until Obama replaces Bush as the most powerful man in the world. The vast majority of Americans, democrats and republicans alike, (and even a higher percentage here on Newsvine) disapprove of Bush.

- Just because we are tired doesn't make it any less important. Yes, we need our boys and girls home, but only when the job is done. Defeating al-Qaida is far more important than the popularity of the war, whether or not we as Americans have the stomach for it, and what your political allies think.

- As the Secretary of Defense, Gates has to following the President, as he, and he alone is the Commander in Chief. Even if he doesn't agree with it, or if the public is against it. He still has to follow orders.

- Wrong Rank on Rank. It is weak to get out of Afghanistan. It takes, as you so gracefully put it, "testicular fortitude" to stay the fight when his own party and some of the world thinks we should pull out.

- It all boils down to priorities. And for Obama, National Security, the War on Terror, and protecting democracy and freedom here and around the world are LOW on his list. Because in all honesty, the Olympics are more important than preventing another 9/11.

- coalbear_1 - have you ever heard of videoconferencing? A daily brief is a one way communication tool written by someone in Washington and NOT the general on the ground in Afghanistan. As the Commander in Chief, he should have weekly two-way communications with his generals.

- No PDeuth...what is wrong is al Qaeda coming onto OUR soil and waging war against us. Do you even remember 9/11? The World Trade Center bombing of 93? How about the USS Cole attack? Those events are wrong! We are at war and the enemy is in Afghanistan.

- As I see it, Obama has only two choices and it's not even about a troop increase. He has to decide to either stay and fight, or pull out. And in my opinion, that is why he is taking so long to make a decision.
